Astymin Winners Urged to Consolidate Success

22/07/2013

The Sales and Marketing Director of Fidson Healthcare Plc, Mr. Olugbenga Olayeye, has urged winners in the second edition of the Annual Astymin Brilliance Reward to use their educational success to drive their ambition and future goals to contribute meaningfully to the society.

Quoting Nelson Mandela, Olayeye, who spoke in Lagos on Saturday at the second Astymin Brilliance Reward ceremony, said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which can be used to change the world.’’

He said the pupils would not only be rewarded for being the best but like a fruit that is planted, their bearings would yield magnificent returns later.

‘’Set the pace for excellence and continue to achieve. Leave your positive mark on any path you walk; don’t just pass through life as ordinary person,’’ he said, assuring the winners that their values and winning spirit would continue to be a blessing to their families, friends, classmates and the society.

He observed that more brilliant pupils were nominated this year, adding that the children should be proud that they were selected as the best pupils in their graduating classes.

“This is not an easy achievement that should be taken lightly. Your persistent hard work and diligence have led you to this moment,’’ he said.

A total of 175 pupils were honoured this year against 105 honoured last year. He said the outstanding qualities in the academics of the children being rewarded were a direct result of their discipline. He said the firm would ensure the continuous reward and promotion of such discipline.

He said, “While others were procrastinating, you were studious. While other pupils were idling and lazy at school, you defied the odds, ignored the distractions and today you have won for yourselves crowns of success.’’

He lauded the sacrifices made by the parents and teachers of the winners, which he said, gave the company the opportunity to hail the pupils. He said, “Sacrifice and discipline are not for the weak-minded and are even impressive when modelled at such young age.’’

According to him, in today’s world, it is easy to get lost in the plethora of technology and social media, adding that “a lot of times, these technological advances, meant to aid, can also hinder children’s ability to focus. Hours are easier to spend on social networking sites but very difficult to invest the same time for the extra essential to excel.’’

He said the Brilliance Reward Day was the appropriate time to say “well done’’ to the pupils. “I am not saying there aren’t any advantage or benefits to these media forums, but those that have been sucked into the matrix of electronic distractions and social ills cannot accomplish the academic excellence that we celebrate today,’’ he added.

He explained that the firm had developed a myAstymin community for all winners of Astymin Brilliance Reward to keep in touch, adding that the interactive community should be used as a portal to expand their success.
